Painter
Laetitia Autrand, native of Toulon, southern France, has been living in Italy for twenty years. In her works, playful creativity combined with rich personality embody the characteristics of the artist. She mixes rational balance with exotic fantasy, transmitting a peaceful atmosphere. Autrand graduated in Art History at the University of Aix-in-Provence, with a thesis on “La Rappresentazione degli Orientali nella Pittura Fiorentina dal 1350 al 1450” (The Representation of Easterners in Florentine painting from 1350 to 1450). The East, and the different culture and mentality of its people, were the inspiration for the artistic productions of Autrand during the first years. The art exhibition “Donna, Mediatrice Multiculturale” (Woman, Multicultural Mediator) organised and curated by Alejandra Reyes-Gonzalez from Totem Visual Arts, was one of the expressions of this interest. The exceptional location was the Antico Oratorio della Passione di Sant’Ambrogio, part of the Basilica itself _Milan, 2013.
Following the exhibition, the artist returned with a new theme accompanied by the use of novel materials; old pallets, nails, and dry tree branches by participating in the exhibition “Mezzo minuto di raccoglimento, IV edizione” (Half a minute of silence, IV Edition). The essence of the exhibition this time was the artist’s commitment to ethical and the aesthetic ways of finding value in junk objects. It was reproduced in 2014 with the “V Edizione” (Fifth Edition). The Fifth Edition was themed “Time”, where the artist sought to convey the preciousness of time.
In 2015, Autrand participated in “Insular”, an exhibition held by the Museo Archeologico di Sant’Antioco in Sardegna, where she presented new pieces full of sensitivity and the inner search for artistic expression, often reminding how the ancient inspires the present.
In 2017 she received the Passpartout Gallery award.
Laetitia Autrand continuously exhibits around Italy in cities such as Milan, Firenze and Palermo developing new techniques and combining materials in order to represent what touched her existence: the nature that surrounds her. Her creations now will be the manifestation of her great admiration of the nature that surrounds her; a pivotal engine in her life.
